Surry County companies receive Gold Awards for safety

August 20th, 2007 · No Comments

The Elkin Quarry operated by Vulcan Construction Materials LP has received its 37th consecutive Gold Level Certificate of Safety Achievement from the N.C. Department of Labor.

Now in its 61st year, the safety program requires award winners to be free of fatal accidents during the year and, at the Gold Level, to have a lost-workday case rate that is 50 percent or less than the statewide average for that industry.

For the third consecutive year, John S. Clark Company of Mount Airy also earned a Gold Level Certificate of Safety Achievement from the N.C. Department of Labor. The award recognizes the company’s commitment to safety practices on the job site and the outstanding health and safety efforts made by all employees. This effort resulted in a substantial reduction of injuries and illnesses and the promotion of safer working conditions during the year of 2006.

The certificate was presented to John S. Clark Co. President Jim Walker at a Safety Awards Banquet held in Mount Airy. Featured speakers were Greg Perkins of the Greater Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce, Ronny White of Duke Energy and Cherie K. Berry, N.C. Commissioner of Labor.

John S. Clark Company, LLC is a general contractor with construction management and design-build capabilities. The company is based in North Carolina and performs work in 24 states.
