Singer/songwriter performing Saturday

August 10th, 2007 · No Comments

Singer/songwriter Dana Parish will make an exclusive one-night-only appearance at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11 — today’s edition of The Mount Airy News has incorrect information — at The Good Life Cafe in Main-Oak Emporium, 248 N. Main St. in Mount Airy.

Performing with her will be composer/musician Andrew Hollander, who co-writes many of Parish’s songs and who created the score to the critically acclaimed film “Waitress.”

Parish and Hollander have appeared in numerous clubs in New York and Los Angeles, as well as the 2007 Sundance Film Festival, where “Waitress,” co-starring Andy Griffith, debuted.

The free performance will last approximately one hour. Space is limited; first-come, first-serve.

The concert will be filmed for an upcoming episode of the “Simple Living with Wanda Urbanska” television series that airs on PBS stations nationally and on UNC-TV at 6:30 p.m. Sundays.

“I was so taken with Dana’s original songs and beautiful voice that I knew she’d be perfect for the ‘Simple Living’ special program on art, music and simplicity,” said Urbanska, who flew to New York earlier this year to meet with Parish at Hollander’s Sugarbox Studios.

Parish’s remarkable songwriting talent has been compared to that of the legendary Carole King, and a recent review calls Parish “the real deal” with an “angelic yet soulful voice.” Her musical background includes working with Grammy award-winning musicians and producers, singing background for Michael Jackson at Madison Square Garden, a publishing contract with Paramount’s Famous Music Publishing Co., and her evocative debut album “It Was Beautiful.”

“Hung Up,” the first single from her upcoming album “Uncrushed,” will be released this fall. The album will come out early next year.
