The Mount Airy Visitors Center at the Greater Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce, 202 N. Main St., now is open on Saturdays and Sundays.

Tourism Director Jessica Icenhour told The Mount Airy News the visitor center assists about 1,400 people Monday through Friday when the office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“I would guess that we’ll greet 500 people on Saturday alone and at least 100 to 200 people on Sunday,” she said.

Two people will staff the visitors center on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. They will help visitors and locals with information about Mount Airy and the region.

“We help them plan their trip, recommend lodging, dining, shopping, attractions and outdoor recreation. We encourage them to stay overnight and for a few days,” Icenhour said. “We think that we are going to be able to capture more people who are touring the wineries.”

The visitors center offers a public restroom, brochures and maps along with advice from the staff.
