Just a reminder: Shopping can be tax-free this weekend in North Carolina.
The state’s annual sales tax holiday starts at 12:01 a.m. Friday and ends at 11:59 p.m. Sunday.
The holiday does not apply to every purchase, but you can score substantial savings on purchases that qualify. Buying computers, which are tax-free up to $3,500, could save you up to $245 at the 7% sales tax rate.
The sales-tax holiday offers a big break to parents buying back-to-school items, but within limits. Each pair of jeans or shoes and every folder, notebook, box of crayons or calculator must cost less than $100. The per-item limit on athletic gear is $50.
For more details, visit the N.C. Department of Revenue on the web. You can find a detailed list of qualified items and updated information on this year’s tax holiday here.
